🛡️ Summary: Note is an offline-first application. We do not require accounts, we do not operate tracking servers, and all your notes, voice memos, and images remain strictly on your local device.
1. Introduction
Mohammad Zahid / Bitbyte ("we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to safeguarding your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how the Note Android mobile application (Package ID: in.bitbyte.note) treats user and device information.
By installing and using Note, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
Unlike cloud-dependent note apps, Note is engineered from the ground up to operate independently of any cloud infrastructure:
- No Personal Identification Data: We do not ask for or collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or government identifiers.
- No User Accounts: There is no registration, login, or user profile creation.
- No Location Data: The application does not track, collect, or monitor your GPS, network, or IP location.
- No Financial Information: Note is completely free and contains no in-app purchases or billing libraries.
- No Analytics SDKs: We do not include tracking tools such as Google Firebase Analytics, Facebook Analytics, or telemetric loggers.
- No Advertising Networks: Note is 100% ad-free and contains no advertising tracking SDKs.
3. Local Storage of User Content
All content created, recorded, or imported by you is stored exclusively on your physical device in Android's private, sandbox-isolated application storage:
- Note Texts & Checklists: Text entries, to-do items, and calculation notes stored in a local SQLite Room database.
- Voice Recordings: Audio memos recorded through the in-app microphone tool stored in the app's internal files directory.
- Images: Photos and snapshots selected or taken as note attachments.
- Settings & Preferences: Theme selection (Light/Dark/System) and preferred interface language.
This data is never transmitted across the internet to any external server or third party.
4. Sensitive Device Permissions
Note requests only the minimum permissions necessary to perform user-initiated actions. These permissions are requested only at runtime when needed:
A. Microphone (android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO)
Used solely when you tap the "Record Audio" button in the note editor to record a voice note. The resulting audio is saved in local private storage. The app does not record in the background or transmit audio data.
B. Camera (android.permission.CAMERA)
Used solely when you choose to take a photo directly inside the note editor to attach it to a note. Photos remain on your device.
C. Notifications (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
Used exclusively to deliver local reminder alerts that you set for specific notes or tasks. No marketing alerts or remote push notifications are used.
D. Exact Alarm Scheduling (android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM)
Enables Android's AlarmManager to fire your chosen note reminders at the exact minute specified.
E. Biometrics (android.permission.USE_BIOMETRIC)
Powers the optional "App Lock" feature. Authentication is handled entirely by Android's hardware-secured BiometricPrompt. Note never accesses, receives, or stores your fingerprint or face biometric data.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share user data with any third party.
When you use the "Share" function (e.g., Share as Plain Text or Share as PDF), the content is passed directly to Android's native system share sheet, and only to the specific application you choose.
6. User Control, Backups & Data Deletion
- Manual Backup: You can export a backup of your notes to any folder of your choice using Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF).
- Permanent Deletion: Notes moved to Trash and subsequently deleted from Trash are permanently erased from your device.
- Complete App Wipe: Uninstalling Note or clearing data in your phone's Android App Settings immediately and permanently deletes all stored notes, recordings, and attachments.
7. Children's Privacy
Note does not target children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). Because our application does not collect any personal data whatsoever, we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Security
Your notes are protected by Android's internal process sandbox, which blocks other applications from accessing Note's private storage. Additionally, you may enable the optional Biometric App Lock for local device-level privacy.
9. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect improvements or platform updates. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
